Beenleigh at Cuboree

The Cuboree 2012 adventure begins

All those going to Cuboree are sleeping over at the Beenleigh Showgrounds. The bus will pull out at 6am. See the Cub Scouts as they ready for the big adventure to Rockhampton and Cuboree 2012.

Cub Scout and Joey Scout Night Ramble

Last night saw the Cub Scouts and Joey Scouts come together for a night ramble around Beenleigh. This was a get to know your City ramble.

The members were given clues to locate aroind Beenleigh. Items to find were a Pizza Hut menu, Video Ezy magazine, train timetables, highest PO Box number at Beenleigh Post Office, plus many other fun things.

The night provided a chance for them to use manners and learn to wait patiently and ask for items without fear. These are all lessons that we have to learn and conquer as we get older.

Bagheera got in trouble for using his compass - not an actual compass - but his general idea of the area. Unfortunately Google Maps provided some help as the round about in the heart of.Beenleigh is a good basis for directions. Sort of helps if you inform others of it first. :-)

In the end we walked around for 1.25 hrs and ended up with a bottle of water amd hot chips from Red Rooster. The members, and those assisting, seemed to enjoy this activity.

Bagheera would like to thank my fellow leaders and parent helper, Joey leader and helpers, plus the two Cub leaders from Ashmore, as well as all the parents that came along. Your help on the night was invaluable and we have plenty of lessons for next time. One is to advise Police of activity, mind you they were in god spirits all night with sirens going off everytime they saw us out.

To the businesses that allowed us to take over stores; Video Ezy, Pizza Hut, Beenleigh Train Station,  and Police. Thank you for your patience and caring attitude as we came through, it was duly noted.

A special thanks goes to Coles Supermarket who supplied water for us as a gift, and to Red Rooster for the donation of the hot chips also.

To the young lady at the deli in Coles, your patience when waiting for the youth members to provide the words to earn the reward, is greatly appreciated.

And all I have left to say is bring on Christmas Ramble 2012 - Let's find Santa!!!

Cuboree Catch up

Saturday, June 2 this is now an Outdoor Scouting afternoon as it is the only item left for all Cub Scouts attending Cuboree need to complete.

All Cub Scouts are welcome as we will cover off all Boomerang levels.

It is a free dress day, but please bring woggle and scarf.

Time is scheduled from 12pm to 4pm. If we finish early the Cub Scouts will watch a movie to finish off the day.

Thank you parents for your patiences this term as we have had a lot of activities on to get ready for Cuboree, plus some others thrown in. The foot will come off for the last 2 terms but we do have a few activities in there too.

Beenleigh Cane Festival

Fundraising Activity

On May 19, the Cub & Joey Scouts were at Coles Beenleigh helping to fund-raise for the group. The activity was to rattle tins. We did a fantastic job as raised over $350 for the efforts.

This exercise is good to get the members to get past their fears in asking people they don;t know. It is not an easy thing to do, but when the coins start to drop inhibitions disappear and their confidence grows. It was good to see some members being challenged to hold out the coin billy can for as long they could. It helped break the ice and add a little more cute factor to the day!

Ropes

So it was back in Boomerang work this week. The Cub Scouts were given the challenge of knots and they all did it very well.

They were also provided the opportunity to build a 'lean to' structure using a square lashing.

I know they all had fun.

We now only have a few more sections to go for those going to Cuboree.
