Grey Wolf Hike - Hike 4

Kaleb P is the fourth cub, in a wave of 5, who have completed or about to complete their Grey Wolf Hike. Saturday afternoon, Bagheera undertook his second hike with Kaleb in the lead.

This hike saw us walk around Beenleigh from the den. Our path was to the library, on to Coles, then through to the Historical Village and the old Rum Distillery.

This walk had more challenges than some as we had to cross many roads, and some of the participants asked to join in struggled on their first hike.

Not only this but we had to battle loosing hats in the wind that would blow on the road. Bagheera had a few heart attacks of Cubs chasing after wayward hats. One actually blew across the road, Bagheera rescued hat, but on return had a friendly visit from a snake. Yes small, but with the climate right for snakes to wake from hibernation no chances were taken.

Kaleb did a great job on such a challenging hike. The hike was a fraction long and we did run over time, but in the end many lessons were learnt and Kaleb will be make a good leader in the future.

Well Done Kaleb on a great hike and a challenging one at that. All cubs that attended were finding it hard on the return leg, but in the end we all returned safely.

Kaleb has now completed all the requirements for his Grey Wolf award and his application will be sent through this week for completion.

Grey Wolf Hike - Hike 3

Last Saturday, Sam P took asked 3 cubs to assist with him completing his Grey Wolf Hike. Bagheera was asked to go along as his leader - but he would be like a cub on the day.

Sam's hike would take us to Witches Falls at Mt Tamborine.

It is very windy and cold at the top, but once down in the grove and trees it was very pleasant for a hike.

On the journey the cubs learnt certain things to look for in the bush, water they can drink when in need, and if a day as windy and cool would dehydrate cubs as quickly as a hot day.

I, for one, enjoyed this hike as it is a chance to get out into the bush and I am sure our cubs also enjoyed the outing in a different environment. Bagheera Cub also challenged Sam with walking slow and hiding behind a tree.

Sam adjusted well to the fact we could not cover the entire walk in the timeframe and had to head back on a shorter path. Not everyone walks at the leaders pace and we have to adjust to the slowest walker.

Well done Sam, you have now completed your base requirements for the Grey Wolf and I will be sending in your application for the award in the next few days.

Grey Wolf Hike - Hike 2

Ashley R completed her Grey Wolf Hike also in the past couple of weeks. Her hike was designed around helping promote cub fundraising events for Cuboree 2012, with a letterbox drop of flyers.

Again the hike planned was too long, but adjustments in plans are important lessons and it is how we respond to those changes is how we prove ourselves as potential leaders.

Thanks to the 3 Cubs that assisted and to Rikki for taking the time to help with the hike.

Ashley will now have her Grey Wolf paperwork sent in so she can receive the Grey Wolf badge.

Well done Ashley.

Grey Wolf Hike - Hike 1

On Thursday, Lachlan M completed a Grey Wolf hike around his local area. The hike took place after school and he invited 3 cubs and Dingo along for the hike. As with most hikes, the planning was very good, but in the end the hike planned was too long. However, this is a valuable lesson for Cubs as they have to learn to know how to adjust and be flexible when doing a hike.

From what I have been told the hike was very good, and Dingo was the naughty Cub on the hike, walking slow and hiding behind trees or cars. This was done to see how well Lachlan coped with missing cubs or slow walkers.

Well done Lachlan, you have now completed the base requirements for your Grey Wolf, and your application for the award is headed to our Branch Commissioner for finalisation.

Father's Day Night

This week was our yearly Father's Day night at the den. This is where Dad's come along And are pit through their paces, and cubs have a chance to 'Wake up Dad'.

We had a great turn out of Dad's this year with only 7 cubs seeking a surrogate for the night. We had around 15 Dad's along.

First activity was to a game to sort the group into months of birthday without talking. Then tallest to the shortest in order.

Once done we headed in for craft activities. The craft item was a fridge clipboard for Dad. The Cubs were given a piece of plywood and sandpaper, and asked to get it ready for painting

Once ready it was outside to the spray booth for a coat of white.

At this point we let them dry and headed in for another game which happens to be 'Wake up Dad'.

'Wake up Dad' is a chance for six lucky Dad's or pseudo Dad's to have a cub ready them for work. This means that Dad gets a wash.

Then it was on to a shave for Dad.

Let's say that the Cubs think Dad is very hairy and needs it all over face.

As Dad is always hungry we have to to feed Dad a bowl of cereal.

After eating we have to brush teeth with lots of toothpaste

Next we have to do the gel in the
hair as Dad must look good for the all meetings.

And now Dad can head off to work looking fantastic - well sort of.

This is a bit of fun and the Dad's love being the 'victims' ahh sorry that should read good sports. The 6 Dad's were first timers to this event and will probably not come back next year :0)

Once Dad was cleaned up the craft activity was completed by adding magnets, drawing a message to Dad and adding a clip.

Dad's were then offered supper to cap off the night.

Well done to everyone of the night and especially to those that were brave enough to be put through the challenges last night.

Bring on 2012 - new ideas next year. Mmmm Just for men might be on the cards!!!!! For more grey hairs after this night!

Car Wash & Car Boot Sale

Wow what an event this turned out to be. This fundraiser was a real winner for getting our Cubs to Cuboree next year.

Our Cubs, leaders and Helpers were able to raise $824 for 5 hours of hard work, while having lots of fun.

In the end we washed 28 cars and were given a bonus on 2 cars of $100.

The Car Boot sale was a hit too and especially the BBQ.

I really cannot thank everyone, who attended, enough for their efforts. Just about every cub came along and we had loads of parents too.

The support our section is receiving from our parents is well noted and very much appreciated.

To those that donated food for the BBQ, we can't thank you enough. In the end it helped boost the fundraising thermometer up. As of this weekend we have passed the $2000 in funds raised.

I definitely think we will do this again. Now if only my body would stop aching and feeling every inch of the cars we washed.

Thanks again everyone for a job well done.

Bring on the Maverick night!!!
