Board Game Night

Last night we asked the Cb Scouts to bring in Board Games that were quick and easy to play. We had Jenga, UNO Stack, Air Hockey, Battleship, Guess Who, and checkers.

The idea of a night like this is to get Cub Scouts to play together, learn the art of how to win or lose, and be able to change and move on in a quick timeframe and be able to start something new.

The Cub Scouts had a load of fun and close out a busy term of getting Boomerang work completed.

On final parade there was one more game to play! With Easter coming up, the Cub Scouts were asked to turn around, close there eyes with hands cupped behind back. Once done Bagheera called Quokka to bring out the live cochroaches ;-). Have you ever seen so man Cub Scout squirm at the thought of having them placed in their hands. In the end we were not that cruel and handed out Easter Eggs and snakes.

It was a great way to end the term.

Congratulations to Kori for earning her Cooking level 1, and to Luke for earning his Weather level 2 badges.

Tuesday March 27

Parents, please be advised that the new intersection at Tallangandra Rd will be closed from 7pm. If you are coming from Eagleby, Windaroo and Mt Warren Park you will need to come to the den via 2 ways

1) Lehmans Rd, left into Yan Yean st and then all the way to Tallangandra Rd
2) Drive to Harburg Rd up the hill.

For those coming fro Windaroo, you will have to go via Mt Warren Blvd as they are closing the road between the 2 Mt Warren Blvd intersections.

Bagheera's Wood Bead presentation

On March 19, I was presented with my Wood Beads. This signifies that I have completed all my training to be a fully qualified leader. For me it has been a journey full of fun and great times. and many great memories to date. If it wasn't for the Cub Scouts that turn up every week it would be a lot harder journey to get through.

For me it is only the beginning, I continue to learn on the job through  the many different types of Cub Scouts we have. I know that when I was away for the two weeks in February, I could not wait to get back and have fun with these great Cub Scouts.

After nearly 4 years in the job, I will see one of my first Cub Scouts, very briefly, progress through to Venturer Scouts in the next few weeks. You hear stories of the leaders that are their for a long time and are seeing Cub Scouts bringing their children. For me I hope to be so lucky.

Thank you Beenleigh for affording me the privilege of being a leader and being able to complete my training.

Cuboree Update

Cuboree Sleepover
For those Cub Scouts attending Cuboree, on Friday, June 22 there will be a sleepover at the Beenleigh Showgrounds for you all. As the bus will arrive at around 5:30am on Saturday June 23 for the trip to Rockhampton we would like all Cub Scouts attending to sleepover so we have everyone there and ready to roll out on time.

At this stage we are also likely to have other groups attending the location, for the same pick up time. It will be an additional bonus to meeting new people.

More information will be coming out once the Cuboree packs arrive in late May.

Cuboree Collections

If you are looking to spend some time in Rockhampton after Cuboree and would like to collect your Cub Scout from the event - or loved one - you will need to complete a pick up form and send back to Branch. If you head over to the Cuboree Website more details have been posted.

We have been advised that there will be no reduction in the Cuboree fees if you elect to pick up.

Special Presentation

During the first few weeks of March, one of our families lost their house to fire. Grizzly, Sam & Kaleb lost almost everything and one of the items was the Scout Uniforms. Thanks to many people and Lisa for the sewing on of badges - trust me with these two there are a lot - she has recreated the patch work quilts on their sleeves.

The uniforms were presented to them on March 13. They were asked to step forward on parade due to them being out of uniform. It was great to be able to present something positive in a time of pain.

Safety - Part 1

On March 13, the Cub Scouts went through Safety. This is a core teaching and due to its size we split in too. This week we had the Cubs Scouts run a skit on the dangers relating to poisons, swimming in deep water, driving in a car and being distracted.

For some of our members it was the first time they had taken part in a skit and they were all very good and funny. In the end they all sold the story and got the message across on the dangers that these activities can present.

We also split into the various Boomerang sections and went through wha the Buddy System was and why it is so important. It was also a good opportunity for our older Cub Scouts to teach the younger cubs about it. During this time they were asked does the Buddy System apply to just within Scouts and how it would work at home?

As unfortunate as it was that our lovely Paterson family lost their house to fire, it was a good example of how we have to look after each in times like these. Next week Grizzly will be going through the Safety section on Fire and using her personal experience explain the dangers of fire in and around the house.

To the Cub Scouts, the leaders were very impressed on the level of creative thinking for your skits. Well done, another moment for us all to be proud of.

Promise & Law Night

On March 6, the Cub Scouts were put through their paces in Promise & Law.

Bagheera's Gift

On February 28, Bagheera completed the final stage of his Wood Bead badge course by presenting his project to the Den. This project took nearly 12 months to complete due to time issues through being involved in Cuboree 2012 and AJ2013 planning. However, I am proud to say that it finally got completed with the thanks to Wombat, Bunyip and Quokka who provided the expertise to complete it.

The project is a set of pigeon holes for the Cub Scouts to place there Dilly bags and items made on the night into.

The pigeon holes are split into 3 boxes on wheels

On the rear is a picture of 2 Cub Scouts. The idea is that at the end of the night the Cub Scout roll the boxes back into place to form the picture.

For me this is something that I can be proud to give to the Group and the Cub Scouts. It will also be something that will be used for many years to come.

Recycling Night

On Tuesday, February 28, the Cub Scouts got into recycling. The night was a craft night, where they were able to create items from old milk cartons and drink bottles. From the milk cartons they created a small box and with the 1.25l bottles, they created a case that could be zipped up.

There was a lot of fun had and they learnt what else we can do with items we throw away.

Well done to Grizzly for sourcing the activities for the night.
