Welcome Goanna

Just wanted to update you all on a parent helper who will be coming to Cuboree. David Seabrook will be coming along onthe journey to Rockhampton. To keep with Scout tradition we have asked David to select a Scouting name. I am happy to advise that he has picked: GOANNA!

Packing Night

Last week, the Cub Scouts were given a lesson on how to pack their bags for Camp. The idea was to show them that they can, and must, do their own packing. With so many going to May camp, and 20 heading to Cuboree, it was important they understood why we only pack essentials aad not electronic devices or take banned items.

We also provided them with tips on how to keep their bags in order - such as using large zip lock bags to help with dressing each day., Saves having to ruffle through your bag to fine the socks and jocks at the bottom of it. Making sure they understood the importance of a first aid kit and why we need to respect each others property.

In the end they had fun, and even got to growl at Bagheera for packing banned food items. Not only that he was in trouble from Quokka for raiding the kids food items from home. Never seen so many happy faces when he got told off for that one!

Hopefully now they will pack thier own bags and not come to us saying I don't have this and that - ok so I am dreaming, hey got to believe in the magic :)

First Aid & Health - Part 1

First night back and we are off to a flying start. First Aid and Health was the subject for this week and as the activity is big we break into 2 sections.

Tonight was all about Hygiene, understanding firs aid principals - DRSABCD and how to pack a first aid kit.

With time to spare we were even able to show all the Cub Scouts how to set a sling with your scarf.

Great time was had by all and wi...th a trully heavy load to get everyone ready for Cuboree we are well on the way to completing the requirements for our Cub Scouts.

Next week please bring a long a sleeping bag, and for the Sixers and seconds a bag that you will be taking to Cuboree or Camp packed. We also invite the parents along to see how to pack a suitcase for travel on our camps.

Will be a night of fun

3 Silver Boomerangs awarded

Congratulations to Ben A, Gavin and Aaron for earning their Silver Boomerangs.

They have now met the criteria to attend Cuboree 2012.

Well done all of you.

Term 2

Hi Parents,

Welcome back to Term 2 and it is going to be a full on Term. It seems to be that May is one of the busiest times of the year.

We start back on Tuesday 17th. We are right into First Aid and Health - Part 1. We have 3 sections of the Boomerang award to complete in Term 2 to have all those heading to Cuboree earn their Silver Boomerang, We are still focused on the other Boomerangs as well, but with so many still needing to complete the minimum requirement to attend it is important we focus on that level at present.

Week 2 will see all parents invited to a Cuboree information night as well as 'How to pack for Camp/Cuboree'. We are going to show tips and tricks to all Cub Scouts and parents on packing so that when it comes time Cub Scouts can easily grab items for showers and changes of clothes. Please come along as we hope it will help with your questions also.

On June 2, we will be holding a Cuboree Catch Up Day for anyone that still has items to clear. This will also be an Outdoor Scouting afternoon as well, so all Cub Scouts are invited to attend to get his section signed off.

Finally on Cuboree, on June 22 there will be a Sleepover at the Beenleigh Showgrounds for all those attending Cuboree. This is designed so we can have all the Cub Scout atending ready to roll at 5:30am when we expect the buses to turn up. We also think it would be a good way to make them sleep on the bus to help Rikki, Emu & David on the journey north :)

Also this term we will be visiting the Police Station, doing 2 Rambles around Beenleigh - one at night and one on May 12. Add to this Camp, ANZAC Day, Cane Festival and a Leadership day it will be the busiest term 2 that I have seen.

The good thing is that all the activities are free of charge.

Please find links to all the C3 Permission forms for the Term and a Fridge Calendar for your reference.
