Our tie dyeing night

To start the night off we promoted two scouts, Daniel to white sixer and Ben S to white second congratulations.

Well forgive me if we don’t all feel like “hippies” after last nights tie dyeing effort.

We have some very creative cub scouts. I think some just wanted to see how many rubber bands could fit on one piece of material and how many colours they could make while others just had a few rubber bands and one colour. All had fun and the results look fantastic.

The mothers’ day recipe books will look great when they are sewn up (I think Bunyip volunteered to do the sewing)

After the tie dyeing the cub scouts then went on to make a woggle each out of leather. Wombat says he only had one cub scout hit his thumb with the hammer (Wombats’ thumb that is).

We also had Cockatoo take all the cub scouts photos so we can attach them to the receipes each cub scout is to bring in for our mothers’ day receipe book. Please start bringing in your recipes (one favourite receipe per cub scout).

We also had a fitness base operated by Dingo so all there last night will have completed their fitness section of their boomerang.

On closing parade sailing badges where given to those cubs scouts who went sailing back in November, well done.

We joke that if you sit still too long you will get a job, will that is exactly what happened to a new members’ dad last night. Thank you Brad for helping out on the tie dyeing table. A big thank you to everyone who helped out.

Thanks to Rikki for the update

Week 2 - New Six leaders

After seeing off three of our older Cub Scouts to Scouts last week, it left us with holes to fill. So with a lot of email chatter the following occured.

+ Gavin was appointed a Sixer of Black
+ Luke his Second
i
+ Alex L was appointed Sixer of Red
+ Alex H her second

+ Elly remains Sixer of Tawny
+ Braeden is now her second

+ Ben A was appointed Sixer of Brown
+ Nathasa his Second

We have 2 more to appoint to White next week.

Well done to you.all. You now need to be leaders and help your six out.

As sometimes happens we reopen a Six called Akela. Sam and Kaleb, will sadly begin linking to Scouts and upon return.from Cuboree will move on. As they have earned all levels in Boomerang and achieved Grey Wolfs we see them now as the Sixer and newbie.mentors. As.a reult they were appointed joint Sixers of Akela Six. One of their duties is to look after all the newbies that come onboard and help them with their linking. They will also be expected to step in and help mentor the other Sixers who have just been appointed.

This Six is held in high regard and we know they will live up to the challenge.

Once the formalities were over we had a Cub Scouts Traditions night. Dingo started with a new game, that we will use again, and then sat the Cub Scouts down to cover off the how and why of the Cub Scout sign, plus provide awareness of Lord Baden Powell was.

We then broke into the Boomerang levels, while the newbies went off for journey card sessions.

We covered off Section 5 of the Boomerang award. Silvers got to hear the tale of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and understand about the yearsbthe Beenleigh Group has existed.

The Golds hit Bagheera up at the end as for the location of the next Australian Jamboree. It will be.in Maryborough QLD from Jan 2, 2013.

The Bronzes had to find out when Scouting started and when it started in Australia.

If was a full on night but we are back in the swing again.

Next week all Cub Scouts are to come in plain clothes as there is painting and dying involved. Scraves and Woggles still required.

Clean Up Australia Day

Beenleigh Scout Group will be participating in the Clean Up Australia Day activities. This year it was decided to keep the clean up local.

There is a website set up for this activity, and if you decide you can register your interest, however, we will still be following our standard Scouting practices for seeking permission to attend. Forms will be sent out in th enext week.

Our areas of clean up will be:
  • James St - Hammell Park area, opposite the Beenleigh Showgrounds,
  • Street and park area bordering Zander St, and
  • length of George St, from the roundabout at Hammel St, through to the Main St roundabout.
The designated start point will be the park area opposite the court house in James St. This is lower traffic area than opposite the Showgrounds on a Sunday morning. We can then walk to the areas and begin the clean up.

Time is down from 9am utnil 12pm - unless completed earlier.
