Pirates in the Park

The Logan River Parklands in Beenleigh was invaded by a motley bunch of pirates, Captain Bagheera, his 7 crew and 1 cabin boy, last Saturday afternoon.

Apparently after sailing up the Logan River their ship, SS Shark Bait, was sunk by a band of bushwackers. Captain Bagheera and his crew were caught napping, or maybe partying a little too hard the night before - ' Yo Ho Ho drink up me hearties'

Fortunately the Captain and his crew were able to get ashore and hide the treasure  aboard the SS Shark Bait, prior to it sinking.

Like all good pirates, if there are any, they used the set back as a  chance to recruit new pirates that had wandered into the park. Well it was more like acquire their assistance. ;0)

But before any new pirate can be part of the crew they have to go through a series of tests to prove their worthiness.

Test 1: raid the catering tent for fod and drink. Some did well while others chickened out! Maybe they didn't have the stomach for what cook had prepared.

Test 2: chance to test your skill at raiding and pillaging from your own crew. Pirates were grouped togther and had to raid other pirate teams treasure to see who could steal the most. This is a favourite pirate game.

Test 3: a game of tug of war, always a good test to try.who is good for the crows nest  or helping pull a captured ship in when hooked at close range. This got ugly when the Captain and his crew were beaten. There were some unlucky candidates that went for a wee swim. ;0)

Test 4: was to navigate a course with compasses. Once the course completed a further riddle was presented to send them out to locate the captain's treasure. See he had forgotten where he had hid it, and the riddle was hard to solve. Each new recruit got to share in the booty.

Final Test: untying ropes. Here the pirates grab a rope end and then have to work together to untangle the web of knotted ropes.

When all was the new crew kindly borrowed a passing ships ride and last seen heading out to Moreton Bay.

It was a fun afternoon and the cubs learnt a lot and had a great adventure.
