Week 2 - New Six leaders

After seeing off three of our older Cub Scouts to Scouts last week, it left us with holes to fill. So with a lot of email chatter the following occured.

+ Gavin was appointed a Sixer of Black
+ Luke his Second
i
+ Alex L was appointed Sixer of Red
+ Alex H her second

+ Elly remains Sixer of Tawny
+ Braeden is now her second

+ Ben A was appointed Sixer of Brown
+ Nathasa his Second

We have 2 more to appoint to White next week.

Well done to you.all. You now need to be leaders and help your six out.

As sometimes happens we reopen a Six called Akela. Sam and Kaleb, will sadly begin linking to Scouts and upon return.from Cuboree will move on. As they have earned all levels in Boomerang and achieved Grey Wolfs we see them now as the Sixer and newbie.mentors. As.a reult they were appointed joint Sixers of Akela Six. One of their duties is to look after all the newbies that come onboard and help them with their linking. They will also be expected to step in and help mentor the other Sixers who have just been appointed.

This Six is held in high regard and we know they will live up to the challenge.

Once the formalities were over we had a Cub Scouts Traditions night. Dingo started with a new game, that we will use again, and then sat the Cub Scouts down to cover off the how and why of the Cub Scout sign, plus provide awareness of Lord Baden Powell was.

We then broke into the Boomerang levels, while the newbies went off for journey card sessions.

We covered off Section 5 of the Boomerang award. Silvers got to hear the tale of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and understand about the yearsbthe Beenleigh Group has existed.

The Golds hit Bagheera up at the end as for the location of the next Australian Jamboree. It will be.in Maryborough QLD from Jan 2, 2013.

The Bronzes had to find out when Scouting started and when it started in Australia.

If was a full on night but we are back in the swing again.

Next week all Cub Scouts are to come in plain clothes as there is painting and dying involved. Scraves and Woggles still required.

Clean Up Australia Day

Beenleigh Scout Group will be participating in the Clean Up Australia Day activities. This year it was decided to keep the clean up local.

There is a website set up for this activity, and if you decide you can register your interest, however, we will still be following our standard Scouting practices for seeking permission to attend. Forms will be sent out in th enext week.

Our areas of clean up will be:
  • James St - Hammell Park area, opposite the Beenleigh Showgrounds,
  • Street and park area bordering Zander St, and
  • length of George St, from the roundabout at Hammel St, through to the Main St roundabout.
The designated start point will be the park area opposite the court house in James St. This is lower traffic area than opposite the Showgrounds on a Sunday morning. We can then walk to the areas and begin the clean up.

Time is down from 9am utnil 12pm - unless completed earlier.

And so it begins....

What a fantastic return to 2012. We had 35 Cub Scouts on our first night back. 30 of these were returning, plus  4 new prospective members and 1 Joey that commenced his six week linking  process.

Just walking out and being ready for parade was a great sight. Seeing so many happy faces shows that we have been working hard and doing something right to have them come back each week.

Last night was our first ever expectations night. Parents were invited to stay for the information session that would showcase the weekly programs for the first 2 terms as well all the activities we have lined up.

The focus of the first six months is getting our 22 Cub Scouts, attending Cuboree 2012 at Rockhampton in June, up to their qualifying level of Silver Boomerang. The majority will complete the Camps needed in May with our annual Cub Scout Camp at Burleigh Heads this year.

It was good to see so many Cub Scouts paying attention to the little hidden treasures within the presentation yesterday. And thanks too to those that picked up on my 'intentional' errors - at least you were all reading and not sleeping :)

Part of the presentation was also a chance to explain the rules for the year, such what raising the hand means and what we expect of each other when we come together each week and outings. There was a comment passed that our pack was really quiet and respectful as they had to listen to Bagheera ramble on!

Once the boring bit was done, the Cub Scouts were sent to play a few games to shake off the sleepy feeling and being ready for final parade.

On final parade we saw Lachlan, Ashley and Danielle head off to Scouts. Their journey with Cub Scouts now over, they commence a new journey in Scouts and begin preparing for the Jamboree coming in 2013.

The Scout Leader, Hathi, was there to take them off. As is tradition the three members shook hands with all their Cub Scout friends. They were then taken to a Flying Fox and sent off to Scouts.

Farewell Ashley, Danielle and Lachlan, you have been great Cub Scouts and we will miss you all.

Finally, this year will be a busy one again, and all the leaders a looking forward to the adventure and challenges it will present.

Thank you all for returning and coming to play again. It will be a year of awesome fun.

Welcome to 2012

Happy New Year everyone.

2012 will be a big year. We are planning an extra camp, plus the annual May Cub camp, Regional camp (Nov) and Cuboree.

We also have Air Activities planned plus some different ideas and outings.

We kick off on January 31 and this will be a happy and sad time. We get some new cubs and we send some older ones off to Scouts.

Keep a watch out in the coming weeks for emails and calendar updates. After a nice long break getting back into the swing has been a bit of a challenge, but now is the time.

Rikki, Dingo, Rama, Raksha and Grizzly will be running the show for the first two weeks, while Bagheera is away for work commitments.

See you all in 3 weeks.
